A Magical Princess Party

A Magical Princess Party

You can’t go wrong with a princess (and prince!) party theme for a decadent birthday celebration. There are so many amazing choices for tableware, decorations, games, activities and party foods. Here’s some of our favorites we want to share with you!

Turn the party room into a beautiful kingdom

Gorgeous garlands and bunting.

These are a very simple yet effective way to make a party room match your princess theme. Most of us hang garlands and bunting horizontally, but how about adding in some vertical ones for a stylish change? Try layers of tissue paper combined with garlands featuring princess related designs.

Hang pink paper lanterns.

They’ll look so pretty and, best of all, you can use them to decorate your home afterwards!

Make a castle backdrop.

This can be done on sheets of cardboard, or thick paper, to lean against the walls. Either print out images, or – if you fancy flexing your artistic muscles – draw and paint on them. Good choices of images are castle brick walls and turrets, unicorns and rainbows.

Transform the table into a banquet

Cover the table with pink and purple tulle for a layered effect. If you want, you could also drape the tulle from the ceiling down over each end of the table in order to create a mysterious canopy. If your party is outdoors, simply tie the tulle onto tree branches. Tie large pink ribbons around each chair, with a bow at the back, for a brilliant effect.

Next, set the table with beautiful tableware in pastel colors. Add lots of luxurious touches with gold glitter or shimmering confetti. Don’t forget napkins for little princesses and princes to gently dab away crumbs with! Fresh pink and white flowers in vases will look magnificent or ,if you’re worried about little people knocking vases over, then strew the tables with paper flowers instead.

Perfect princess party games and activities

Balloon dancing.

Fill a space with lots of pretty balloons (you can put the balloons behind a net in the corner of a room, then let them spill onto the floor as the music starts for a wonderful effect!) for your guests to whirl around whilst dancing and singing to fabulous songs from Disney films. Mini makeovers are a brilliant party activity for little princesses.

All you need are cute make-up kits, shimmering hair accessories, hairbrushes, hairspray, temporary tattoos and mirrors. Get several adults to help out – one person to do mini manicures, another hair, another make-up and another can place on unicorn temporary tattoos. Don’t forget to have a camera to hand to take before and after photographs. Set up a princess photo booth to make the images look even more special. A cardboard backdrop painted with castles, unicorns and rainbows and sprinkled with glitter and confetti will look sensational.

Find Cinderella’s lost shoe.

Hide a party shoe and let the guests find it. A simple hide and seek game, but such fun!

Crown decorations.

Paper crowns, pointy princess hats and tiaras look fabulous to wear instead of normal party hats. Buy ready made crowns/princess hats/tiaras, or make your own out of thick paper, then get your guests to decorate them with plastic jewels, stickers and glitter for an individual look.

Kiss the frog.

This is a fun princess themed variation of the ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ game. Make a large poster with an image of a frog on it and several card lip shapes with a sticky back. Each child takes it in turn to wear a blindfold, spin around three times, then place a lip shape on the poster. The child who gets the lips closest to the frog’s mouth is the winner.

Delicious party foods

Pink food looks fantastic at a princess party. Think pink cupcakes, pink cookies and bowls of red grapes. We also love this recipe for sweet pink candy popcorn, as found here.

This recipe makes 12 servings.

2/3 cup popcorn kernels, popped
2 cups of granulated sugar
2/3 cup half and half or whole milk
1 Tbsp light corn syrup
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Red food coloring

Pop the popcorn, pour into 2 large mixing bowls and leave to cool. Meanwhile, place the sugar, half and half/whole milk, corn syrup and salt in a saucepan on a medium heat. Stir well and cook until the sugar has dissolved (don’t let the mixture boil!). Continue cooking until the mixture reaches 230 degrees, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla and a few drops of food coloring. Mix well. Pour over the popcorn and stir until well coated. Spread the popcorn onto waxed paper on a flat surface and leave to cool and dry. Store in an airtight container until serving. Looks delightful in large bowls decorated with pink tissue paper and ribbons, or serve in pink paper cones.

Tasty sandwiches fit for royalty!

Queen Elizabeth II loves dainty cucumber sandwiches served at her parties – so why not try them out? They’ve got just the right amount of satisfying crispy crunch! Or you can use a cream cheese filling, color it with a touch of ketchup to give a wonderful pink tone. Use cookie cutters, like a unicorn, to make your sandwiches look extra special.

Pizza crowns.

Cut pizza into crown shapes, and pop on salami, chorizo, cheese, bell pepper or pineapple pieces cut into jewel shapes as tasty decorations.

Cinderella’s pumpkins.

Simply peel tangerines and pop a piece of celery in the top – a super fun way to present food. These will look brilliant displayed on a cake stand, or on a large platter.

Princess thirst quenchers.

Serve pink milkshakes (made with fresh strawberries and/or strawberry ice cream) topped with pink candyfloss and sprinkles for extra effect, or pour out cups of fizzy pink lemonade.  Or make your own pink colored non-alcoholic punch and give it a personal name, like “Princess (name of the birthday girl) Punch” and serve in large jugs with lots of ice. A tasty combination to try is cranberry and raspberry juice mixed with water (sparkling or still).
