Five Fun Ways To Celebrate Valentine’s Day

It only comes once a year, so use it as an excuse to celebrate your loved ones in style!

Of all the festivities throughout the year, Valentine’s is the one to unashamedly show how much you love close family and friends. It’s also a fun reason to crack out the pink and red decor, heart-shaped plates and charming hearts or bow garlands. Valentine’s Day is a special way to celebrate with your kids, whether by having a sweet heart-themed breakfast or baking some delicious Valentine’s treats. Here are five simple ways to celebrate. Spread the love!

Serve a Valentine’s Day Breakfast

An easy, novel idea that gets the day off to the sweetest start. Forget your everyday breakfast table – set it with beautiful Valentine’s Day decorations and tableware to make the kids feel truly cherished. Hang up our new Parisien-inspired lovebird garland and add in some heart-shaped plates, pink or red flowers and pink napkins. Elevate their normal breakfast menu by adding in strawberries, pastries and macarons – go to town!

Bold, joyful florals are a trend that carries across interiors and parties for 2025. Note our new Meri Meri x Liberty collaboration collection that showcases eight distinct Liberty prints across tableware, decor and gifts. Elsewhere, our floral collections (don’t miss our new Meadow Unicorn) serve every occasion from baby showers and birthdays to picnics. Power to the flower!

Bake for Love

Baking is fun bonding activity for parents and kids and for Valentine’s Day, it's especially enjoyable. From heart-shaped cookies and pink-iced cupcakes to indulgent red velvet cakes, there’s a whole range of fun cakes you can opt for. Here’s a delicious failsafe Valentine’s cupcake recipe from baker Dee Lewis from Sweet Dee's Bakery, who creates magical cakes for the Meri Meri photo shoots. You can’t beat a classic done well after all!

Ingredients for 16 cupcakes:

3 large eggs
3/4 cup (5.3 oz) granulated sugar
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks or 5.3 oz) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup (5.3 oz) self-rising flour (or make your own: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt, then measure out 3/4 cup)
1 tsp vanilla extract

Buttercream icing:

1/2 cup (1 stick or 4 oz) unsalted butter
4 cups (17.6 oz) powdered sugar
3 tbsp (1.7 fl oz) milk or cream
1 tsp vanilla extract

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for convection ovens).
2. Using a handheld mixer on high speed, cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla together until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated.
4. Add the flour and mix on low speed until just combined. Finish mixing by hand with a spatula to avoid overmixing.
5. Divide the batter evenly between cupcake liners and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cupcakes spring back when lightly touched.
6. Let cool completely on a wire rack.

Buttercream:

1. Soften the butter in the microwave on low power until soft but not melted.
2. In a stand mixer, combine butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Beat on high speed until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes). If using a handheld mixer, it may take longer.
3. Pipe or spread the buttercream onto the cooled cupcakes.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.

Send a Message of Love

The most traditional thing to do on Valentine’s Day – send a card. These days, kids love to get involved by writing little cards to their friends and popping them in a school Valentine’s Day mailbox. Our new notelets arrive in a variety of cute shapes like fruit boxes and boom boxes and come with tiny erasers to give out with the cards too. Alternatively, you can download, print and make our sweet Valentine's card craft. Sweet!

Hunt for the Hearts

A Valentine’s Day treasure hunt is fun activity for little kids. Wrap up a fun gift or two and place them in hiding places around the house. Write a series of clues on pink paper – around 5-6 should do it. Each clue leads to the next. For example:

Clue 1: The first clue can be found where you rest your sleepy head. (Answer: under the pillow)
Clue 2: You're doing great! The next clue hides where shoes go to rest their soles. (Answer: Shoe rack)
Clue 3: Love is sweet, just like a treat. Look where we keep something to eat. (Answer: Snack drawer/pantry)
Clue 4: Hearts are warm and hugs are snug. The next clue’s tucked beneath a... (Answer: Rug)
Clue 5: Almost there! Your next clue is stashed where stories and adventures are kept. (Answer: Bookshelf)
Clue 6: The treasure you seek is where your clothes keep cozy and neat. (Answer: Closet)

Final Note: Pair the final clue with a Valentine’s-themed surprise to complete the fun!
