The Top 10 Party Trends for 2024

Predicting the Biggest Party Trends of 2024, from magical niche-themed parties to maximalist home decor

2024 looks set to be a year of color and fun! Maximalism is back in elevated dining, with all the trimmings, including layers of beautiful candles in a rainbow of hues. The trend towards more sustainable parties continues with the desire for more reusable partyware. Plus, sugary pastel hues are big news! Welcome to party trends for the year ahead...

The Bow Must Go On!

From the world’s finest interiors to the catwalks of Milan and Paris, beautiful bows are completing looks to perfection. Bows also remain a huge trend online from Instagram to Pinterest, which saw a +190% increase in searches for ‘bow outfits’ and +55% increase on the term ‘bow aesthetic’. The new take? Bow stacking, which means layering bows on everything from hair to shoes to home adornments. The perfect finishing touch, bows work perfectly attached to gifts and napkin holders but also in the form of garlands and printed on candles.

Keep It Niche!

As the trend for small but perfect parties continues, so too does the shift towards ultra-niche themes. Pinterest has seen an increase in searches for ‘monthly milestones’ – what they call ‘Inchstones’ – those tiny triumphs and not-so-grand moments like baby’s first tooth, end of school year parties, and baby naming ceremonies. Happily, we have all the partyware you could ever require for these micro celebrations, from party garlands and balloon arches to niche themes like kittens, race cars, and mushrooms. And watch this space for our inspired new pony club, airplanes, and circus-themed collections dropping soon...

“After a few years of scaled-down events, entertaining is back in a big way! My top tip is to keep dinner parties simple but super special too. Cocktails and cheese/meat boards with lots of candles will create a memorable gathering. Focus on creating atmosphere and intimacy.”

Style It To The Max

Scallops, stripes, and checkerboard! Bold patterns and textures! An explosion of color! Maximalist style is back! And Vogue magazine predicts ‘mix and match[ing] shades and tones’ will be big for 2024 in fashion. Cue the new grandpa-core trend that’s recently exploded across Pinterest and Instagram with nostalgic knits, eccentric color combos, and a mismatch of accessories all big for 2024. Eclectic and quirky are in. "More is more" has always been the Meri Meri motto! Check out our statement-making garlands and colorful checker party collection.

Fairytale Magic

With designers including Richard Quinn, Erdem, and Molly Goddard concocting sheer, super romantic dresses in chiffons and tulles for spring/summer 2024, fairytale magic is back in style. Here at Meri Meri, storybook magic never went away. Alongside a collection that’s perfect for modern princes and princesses (one of our most popular collections), we have a fairy-focused range with all the magic of the forest, including our ultra-popular honeycomb mushroom decorations, fairy cake toppers, and glitter wands.

"Do focus on the little things – everything from the guest list to the table layout. Place cards with velvet bows are a great way of making guests feel special.”

Stylishly Sustainable

The appetite for more sustainable parties grows each year as parents globally look for more planet-friendly ways of celebrating every occasion. Sustainable tableware is also a big trend in home décor, especially in natural shades like chocolate brown, deep green, and burnt orange and more natural textures. Cue our reusable or compostable collection which includes elegant linen napkins and new plates for 2024 made from wood and a selection of reusable, dishwasher-safe plates and cups that include at least 82% recycled plastic.

Pretty Pastels

‘Peach Fuzz’ is the newly announced Pantone Colour of 2024 while trends forecasting agency WGSN have picked ‘Apricot Crush’ and UK paint company Dulux have selected ‘Sweet Embrace’ – a pretty blush pink. In other words: dreamy, happy-making pastel hues are big news for 2024. Pantone says: ‘Peach Fuzz’ is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration. A warm and cozy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others or for enjoying a moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary. Let the pastel-hued party begin!

Retro Revival!

The ‘90s nostalgia trip continues in 2024 in all areas from fashion to interiors. In fashion, Italian label Marni purveyed the aesthetic with elegant, ribbed turtlenecks and a slinky maxi skirt and dozens of other designers including Stella McCartney and Helmut Lang followed suit. The happy festival vibe of the ‘90s is one that carries over perfectly to partyware. Cue our fun new happy florals range that suits any occasion from birthday parties to baby showers featuring classic ‘90s smiley faces and a fun flower power print.

“Whatever the size of your party, layering paper plates over ceramic ones and mixing pretty paper cups with your best glassware and favorite table centerpieces will look impressive yet require a lot less washing up!”

The Right Stripes

Stripes never really go out of style, but the spring/summer ‘24 catwalks showcased bold new interpretations. Labels including Bottega Veneta, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton presented bold, colorful stripes with a slight blur effect. Fun, impactful, and statement-making—just like our striking new colorful striped birthday partyware, suitable for all ages and seamlessly blendable with other pieces from our collection. Just add a party hat!

Elegant Dining

With proper socializing back in style, elevated dining takes the spotlight! Think beautiful place settings with all the trimmings—linen napkins, the finest crockery, exquisite glassware, and centerpieces. Elevate your game by incorporating grand table decorations like crackers and surprise balls. Layer paper and/or recycled plastic plates on your finest china. Add an eye-catching centerpiece and candles. Treat your guests to a visual feast!

The Stealth Soirée

The antidote to maximalism? Quiet luxury, which remains a major trend in fashion. Labels like Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, and Chloe elegantly convey this style, making it a natural alternative for those who shy away from the new maximalism. Picture pared-back decor in whites or neutral tones—chic and suitable for anything from a bridal shower to a special birthday. This trend appeals to those who appreciate the cool, uncluttered Scandi aesthetic featuring creams, whites, and soft, stylish elements accentuated with gold.
